Professional Image Expert: graphic design 3d modeling digital photography designing logos graphics editing editors

I have been working with digital images longer than anyone I know; I built my first "PC Clone" in 1990. It was a 33 mhz 386 with a 42 mb hard drive and 2 megabytes of RAM. The computer I built in April has 512mb of RAM, and a 60gb hard drive. To make a comparison, my first PC had a 42 megabyte hard drive. My machine now has a few hard drives, but the main hard drive is 60 gigabytes. One thousand megabytes is 1 gigabyte, and that pc in 1990 had a 42 megabyte hard drive. Hard to imagine, we've come a long way.

My first scanner was a hand held 32 shades of grey logitech, I believe it was called a "ScanMan" I'll look it up online and post the updated info here. Being the computer genius I am, I got files from a friend who had the same scanner, but the 256 shades of grey version, and I installed the drivers and as I suspected, I was able to scan at 256 shades of grey, instead of the 32 shades. There is a chance this scanner is at my parent's home, I'll figure that out before too long and post the information here.

This ScanMan was somewhat difficult to use, requiring a steady hand and fluent rolling motion to keep the scan consistent. I used this scanner to create flyers for a local market where a friend worked. Bennie's market in Centerbrook, Connecticut. It would take all day to make the flyers, back then computers didn't perform like they do today, and my machine, maxed out, would still take a minute or two to refresh, (re-draw) the screen after I made changes. I have always been one to save my work frequently, and doing these flyers, it was necessary. If I scanned an image that was too large, or something caused my machine to crash, it would take forever to recreate my work.. so every chance I got, I held down CONTROL and HIT S, the equivalent to SAVE via shortcut.
